Redd Kross — “Researching the Blues”
Well, now. Yay for the return of Redd Kross, who are finally releasing a new studio album, some five years after they got back together to play a bunch of festivals and etc. The album’s called Researching the Blues, and it’s out in August — this is the title track, and it’s available for free download via SoundCloud.
Although the band has played several reunion shows since 2006, the last album from Los Angeles punk institution Redd Kross came out in 1997. So it’s taken 15 years, but the band has announced a new album, Researching the Blues, out August 7 on Merge. The album was recorded with the same lineup that appears on 1987’s Neurotica: brothers Jeff McDonald and Steven McDonald (also of OFF!), Roy McDonald, and Robert Hecker.
The band is set to headline the HoZac Blackout Fest in Chicago on May 19 and play the Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis on May 18. More tour dates will be announced later this year.
Jeff McDonald started power-pop band Redd Kross when he was just fourteen. Redd Kross have released albums since the 1980’s and have set high standards for power-pop ever since. Being based in LA, punk was the precursor and backbone of his sound and Redd Kross now has a new album coming out in August.
