SECOND INSTALLMENT'S DIARY:
Here
it is the second installment of Redd Blood Cells,
I'm Finding it Harder to be a Gentleman,
and the radio friendly?!?!? Fell in Love With a Girl.
It's looking like we may be able to finish my performance art
piece without being shut down by "the man" after all.
I met Jack last week at one of their Los
Angeles shows, and he gave me his approval and support 100% on
the project. Yea, ... I'm not being kicked out of the band!!!
He thinks it 's a much better idea than The White
Strokes ... who ever that is ... I think it 's some bad
English novelty group, very Top of the Pops.
Now if I may, I would like to comment on the newest entry
to RBC, and my experience jamming with the
White Stripes.
I'm Finding it Harder to be a Gentleman;
My new favorite track on RBC. It
used to be "Dirty Leaves"
but I had so much fun with Jack and Meg
on this one, it's my new fave. I was particularly thrilled
with the part I stumbled upon in the "find the emotion to
stimulate devotion" section. I felt like I was able
to be the bass counterpart to Jacks guitar; loads
of attitude, yet sexy casual at the same time. The
lyrics were really inspiring, and of course the drums ... well
let's put it this way; Meg threw me a few
curve balls this week, but they always landed right in the pocket
– the hott pocket that is.
Fell in Love With a Girl; Since
it's already a hit song I felt a little pressure going in to this
one. I decided to bust out my Russian Big
Muff, and give it the old fuzz bass treatment. I
was looking for something somewhere in the realm of the Rolling
Stones' Flight 505 meets Blur's
Song #2 . I played it pretty safe, mostly
just held down the fort with Meg. I
thought about adding hand claps in the instrumental sections,
but I ran out of time. Maybe that's in poor taste to add
other tracks besides bass, but I'm thinking maybe the occasional
harmony vocal, maraca track etc. Feel free to express your
opinions on our
news group. Maybe your suggestions will
make their way on to the final product ... Wow surveying large
groups – way beyond Brian Eno production
techniques!
From this point on we will only post two songs at a time. Each
update will happen on a Monday, as I complete the tracks. I'm
shooting for two songs a week, so theoretically we will be done
in a little over 6 weeks. I'm working in the same sequence as
the sister project White Blood Cells, so
if you find you've missed out on your favorite tracks ... happy
hunting.
enjoy,
Steve
