We're
almost in the home stretch, installment #6
I Think I Smell a Rat:
Employing the Hungarian Minor scale I think I smell a rat has
got that groovy Russian sound the kids are going ape for now
a days. One must be very careful when working with such a scale
or you may end up sounding like a Bar Mitzvah band on spray
paint. With this dilemma at hand I did what any half decent
bass player would do, I tried to make it sound like Paint
it Black as much as possible. I'm quite pleased
with the results, hope you are too.
Aluminum: A heavy freak out that Jack,
Meg and myself laid down late one night. Meg
and I had compulsively eaten an entire economy sized bag of
Skittles, and instead of getting sick we decided to use it as
inspiration. This is what we came up with ... That's the kind
of lie that is so stupid people won't even question you, who
would lie about something like that? Well I guess me, but the
truth of the matter is I laid down some bass harmony and then
I went for a little vocal harmonizing, and it sounds sort of
like the story I tried to cultivate.
We are now 12 songs in to my performance art piece. I don't
think I've gotten this into a record in a long time. Maybe it's
the only way I'll be able to enjoy music in the future. No i'm
not that narcissistic, I can enjoy music that's not mine, I
just have to lower my expectations ... I'm just kidding, I swear!!!
But seriously I would like to thank Jack, Meg
and the entire White Stripes family once again
for graciously supporting (or at least not shutting down) Redd
Blood Cells. This is rapidly becoming amongst my proudest
works to date.
enjoy,
Steven
