From Pop to the Pit: LAPL Photo Collection Celebrates the L.A. Music Scene, 1978-1989

Culled from the Herald-Examiner photo archive and the Gary Leonard Collection, the LAPL Photo Collection presents a glimpse into a decade in the musical life of a city that produced scores of hit singles, showcased strikingly diverse genres and generated tremendous excitement.  Join us in the History & Genealogy Department for the opening night reception as we unveil rarely seen portraits of Mötley Crüe , The Go-Go’s, X, Minutemen, Social Distortion, The Dickies, Redd Kross, The Runaways, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Dream Syndicate, The Three O’Clock and dozens more.  Special guest speakers will share their stories and light refreshments will be provided.  Come experience an extraordinary time in L.A.’s music scene as we salute the bands that helped define the era.  On display in the History & Genealogy Department January 8 to July 28, 2015.
